Where to Stay on Oahu: Your Guide to the Best Hotels, Hostels and Airbnbs

Planning your trip to Oahu and not sure where to stay? We’ve got you! Here is our guide to the best places to stay on Oahu.

What Are the Best Hotels on Oahu:

A. The Royal Hawaiian Resort Waikiki

This is one of our favorite hotels, with stunning views, incredible architecture and the ideal location. The Royal Hawaiian is right along Waikiki beach and boasts some of the best views on the island. Otherwise known as the “Pink Palace of the Pacific,” it’s located within the lush Helumoa Gardens.

B. The Ritz-Carlton O’ahu, Turtle Bay

Located on the iconic North Shore of Oahu, Turtle Bay Resort offers picture-perfect backdrops, incredible hiking, snorkeling and golfing. It’s also where the likes of Blue Crush, Along Came Polly and Forgetting Sarah Marshall were shot. Curl up for sunset with a tasty Mai Tai, go for a surf and enjoy music at night.

Pro Tip: One of the best times of year for Turtle Bay is December-February when the waves on the North Shore reach 30 feet or more. If you’re a surf enthusiast this is the best time to catch Pipe Masters and the Eddie if conditions are right. If you’re looking for calm swimming conditions, the best season for the north shore is June-August.

C. The Hilton Waikiki Beach

A Waikiki hotel with incredible ocean and mountain views but with a more affordable price tag. Nestled a few blocks inland, the Hilton Waikiki is only a couple blocks to the water and is surrounded by delicious local eateries, poke and Japanese food.

D. The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club

The design of The Surfjack is unmatched. This hip, relatively new hotel is in the heart of Waikiki, with it’s own Banks Journal store and a pool open to guests and the local community. This is a great place to meet a mix of travelers and locals.

E. Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort

One word: location! The Outrigger is located right along Waikiki Beach with an incredible pool for kids to play in.

F. Halekulani Hotel

This 5 star hotel is the crème de la crème of hotels. It’s right on Waikiki beach, with a stunning pool overlooking the ocean.

G. Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort & Spa

The Moana Surfrider a historic gem in Waikiki. Known as the “First Lady of Waikiki,” it opened it’s doors in 1901. Located directly on Waikiki beach this hotel has it all, from quick access to surfing, to the best shops and restaurants.

H. The Laylow, Autograph Collection

Looking for a hotel with timeless style? You’ve found it! Nestled a few blocks inland, The Laylow offers tasteful accommodation at a lower price point.

What are the Best Hostels on Oahu:

Looking for places to stay that don’t break the bank? Here are our favorite hostels on Oahu, all within walking distance of a surf break.

A. The Backpackers Vacation Inn Haleiwa. This is an old favorite, with private rooms to rent, private bungalows and shared rooms available. Located on the north shore of Oahu, it’s within walking distance of Foodland (the grocery store) and a short bike ride to the iconic Pipeline surf break.

Pro Tip: If you want to come here during the winter surf season, it’s best to book in advance as this place sells out quickly.

B. The Beach Waikiki Boutique Hostel. Nestled in the heart of Waikiki and a quick walk to the ocean, this is a surfers dream spot.
